Grade 6 ELAL Listening & Speaking
Unit Plan: 900 Learning Activities for Grade 6 English Language Arts & Literature. Based on the new LearnAlberta curriculum from Alberta Education. Includes embedded digital: instructional videos, visual and auditory word work functions and levelled reading books. There are 180 instructional days in the school year.
Student Learning Outcomes Included:
Listening & Speaking: FNMI, Pre-Presenting, Presenting & Post-Presenting
I can connect the quality and efficacy of oral communication to oral language skills by:
a) FNMI:
i. describing how meaning is conveyed, how oral communication processes and protocols contribute (enhance quality of personal relationships) to the transmission or preservation of knowledge through human-made structures of land by First Nations, Métis, or Inuit and peoples from other parts of the world.
b) Pre-presenting:
i. examining speeches for their ability to persuade and engage an audience.
ii. offering relevant information and logical reasoning.
iii. considering varied perspectives or opinions to enhance collaborative dialogue.
c) Presenting:
i. developing and delivering presentations (applying elements of public speaking) for specified purposes and audiences.
ii. analyzing the effectiveness of verbal, nonverbal, and paraverbal language used in oral communications.
iii. selecting a speaking style, adjusting presentations based on audience background, motivation, or interests.
d) Post-presenting:
i. reflecting on and share new, expanded, or adjusted learnings resulting from collaborative dialogue.
ii. reflecting on the preparation, content, and delivery of oral communication and consider opportunities for improvement.
iii. describing how effective speaking can impact daily life.
