Meaning & Purpose: confirming the author’s (creator’s) purpose; explaining personal preferences; examining the structure of literary forms (elements such as figurative language (personification, analogy, idiom) and point of view), and text structures (main plots /subplots/flashbacks); determining how text structure and story features support organization and communication and if characters are major or minor; differentiating between fiction sub-genres (context, characters, time, place); creating imaginative representations (dramatizations) using point of view; and with non-fiction by: investigating the organization of non-fiction texts; discussing facts and opinions; and with poetry by: examining narratives, point of view, poetic structures and creating poems that contribute to creative expression such as free verse or concrete poetry.
