Grade 6 ELAL Reading
Unit Plan: 720 Learning Activities for Grade 6 English Language Arts & Literature. Based on the new LearnAlberta curriculum from Alberta Education. Includes embedded digital: instructional videos, visual and auditory word work functions and levelled reading books. There are 180 instructional days in the school year.
Student Learning Outcomes Included:
Reading: Text-study (pre-reading), Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry
I can analyze how text (digital and nondigital) form and structure clarifies information and supports connecting with self, others, and the world by:
a. Text Study (pre-reading):
i. categorizing a variety of texts according to genre and purpose.
ii. examining the form, structure and features (that organize content, identify important information and enhance personal expression and understandings of sub-genres) of a variety of literary and mentor texts texts.
b. Fiction:
i. examining a variety of fictional text structures (including a story within a story), elements (conflict), and characters (based on what they say, think, or do or what others say and think about them), describing the protagonist and antagonist in a variety of fictional texts and making connections between texts by reading for enjoyment and academic development.
c. Nonfiction:
i. investigating ways that non-fiction texts can be organized (structure, content or source of information) to enhance the presentation of factual information, provide personal opinions, confirm accuracy of information and make connections between texts by reading for enjoyment and academic development.
d. Poetry:
i. reading, examining, listening to, reciting, or singing poetry, viewing dramatic works and their narrative structures (comedy and tragedy), investigating and analyzing figurative language and poetic structures that can develop empathy and inspire creative expression of ideas such as ballads.
